Wine experiences

Growing up I would always see my dad drinking a glass of red wine at night, I believe Merlot. I believed wine was the coolest alcoholic drink around, until I tried it for the first time, lets just say it was a young age. The experience scarred me for a long time, I was 23 when I started to drink it consistently, and it took the healing of my girlfriend to bring me back and appreciate this fine beverage.

Some of my finest moments in my life are attending wineries with my girlfriend back home in Fauquier County. There are so many wineries in that area, even my mom lived less than a mile from back to back wineries. I even go to wineries here in Blacksburg when my gf comes down to visit. We attending these great establishments so many times, my girlfriend and I bought a membership to Barrel Oaks, a winery in Delaplane Virginia.

As for my favorite kinds of wine, I like a nice white wine, not to sweet not to dry, I still can't recite the names of them. But I'm not a fan of overly dry wines, I will have a slightly dry red, like a Merlot, when I'm eating a steak. I also cannot stand overly sweet wines, like a Moscato. Taking this class I hope to broaden my knowledge of wine and obtain an even greater appreciation for it, and this gives my gf another reason to go out and drink more wine.
